Conduct Process

Written Conduct Process
  • Incident is reported to the Office of Student Accountability & Support from our website, MUPD, Residential Life or other agencies.
  • Office of Student Accountability and Support Begins Process
  • Student receives a letter via email from the Office of Student Accountability & Support.
    • At this time a judicial hold is placed on the student’s MyZou account which prevents enrollment.
  • Informal Resolution Process
    • Schedule a meeting with the appropriate person in the Office of Student Accountability & Support via MU Connect.
    • If a student fails to schedule a meeting within 5 days of receiving their letter a decision will be made without their input.
  • Meet with Judicial Peer Advisory Council (JPAC) or Hearing Officer
    • The meeting is an initial meeting regarding the incident.
    • The student is allowed to have an advisor if they choose to bring someone with them to the meeting. The advisor cannot speak on behalf of the student, but can whisper or write notes to the student.
  • After the meeting has occurred the student will receive a decision letter from the Office of Student Accountability & Support via email.
    • No Findings- Case Closed- Not Responsible
    • Informal Disposition Issued
      • Please carefully read the decision letter and follow the directions as instructed in the letter.
  • Student Accepts Proposed Resolution & Sanctions
    • Student completes sanctions and Case is Closed
    • Student can pay Judicial fee within 2 weeks with cash or check, after that time it will be charged to their student account.
    • It is the student’s responsibility to complete and submit their sanctions to the Office of Student Accountability & Support by the due date given in their decision letter.
    • Please note that the student could face possible failure to comply charges for having overdue sanctions.
    • Once the student’s submitted sanctions have been reviewed and approved the student will receive a confirmation email and the judicial hold on their account will be removed.
  • Student Rejects Proposed Resolution & Sanctions
    • Must return signed letter within 5 business days of the date of the decision letter, if not received in 5 business days it will automatically be accepted.
    • At this time a Do Not Accept meeting will be scheduled for the student.
      • Formal hearing process will be explained to the student and the student has the option to accept the decision or continue to a formal hearing.
    • A Student Conduct Committee hearing is scheduled and the student will receive a Notice of Disciplinary Charges and Hearing letter via email and certified mail to the student’s active address listed in MyZou.
    • At the Student Conduct Committee hearing the following procedures will be followed in the Collect Rules and Regulations 200.020 (3).
    • After the Student Conduct Committee has made a decision a decision letter will be sent to the student via email and certified mail to the student’s active address listed in MyZou.
      • Student found in violation and sanctions issued
      • Student Not found in Violation- Case Closed.
  • The student has the right to appeal or petition for review the decision of the Student Conduct Committee per the Collected Rules and Regulations 200.020.  To appeal or petition for review the student needs to follow the instructions in their decision letter by detailing their reason in writing to the Dean of Students within the allotted time in their decision letter.
  • The student will receive a letter from the Dean of Students office regarding the final decision of his or her appeal.
  • Once the submitted sanctions have been reviewed and approved the student will receive a confirmation email and the judicial hold on the students account will be removed.
